Erakor Island Resort & Spa

Erakor Island ResortAs they say, Erakor Island Resort is a few minutes on a ferry and a thousand miles from care. The resort offers quality boutique accommodation on an unspoiled 16-acre island. The owners have overseen total refurbishment of the bungalows and restaurant as well as landscaping and attention to the beach areas.

While only minutes from Port Vila, Erakor’s white sand beaches and crystal waters take you to tropical paradise. Relaxed and secluded, Erakor also offers watersports, beach movies and has a great restaurant. The Aqua on Erakor restaurant specialises in seafood but the steaks are also terrific. There are private waterfront villas (some with spas) and there is a Day Spa facility for massages and the latest beauty treatments. Thursday nights are special for the Melanesian Feast, Fun & Fire Dancing on the beach.

For those wishing to be married or renew their vows, there’s no more romantic place than the open-air historic chapel, or any of the beaches around the island. Here’s a link to the various Erakor Island Resort wedding packages.

Cocomo Resort

Cocomo Resort VanuatuLocated only a few minutes from Port Vila by bus, Cocomo Resort has two-bedroom spacious self-contained apartments, one-bedroom options, some with spas and a swimming pool with poolside café.

While the apartments suit families or two couples (or wedding guests), there are also villas for couples. All villas have a lounge area, a mezzanine bedroom and spa and the two Waterfront Villas have their own private beach area.

The atmosphere is very relaxed with wonderful staff and the spa villas will suit couples wanting affordable luxury not too far away from activities and restaurants etc.

Eratap Beach Resort

Eratap Beach ResortEratap is a stunning resort about 30 minutes from Port Vila. To get there you will be taken off-road a little and wonder what lies in store… and what lies in store is a fabulous resort with both lagoon and beach ambience, lovely villas, pool, fabulous restaurant and attentive, friendly staff.

The one, two and three-bedroom villas are very comfortable and there are two Honeymoon Villas, each with a private plunge pool and one with a private beach. The resort offers snorkelling, diving, surfing, horse riding and private island picnics.

The atmosphere is casual and romantic and the restaurant gets great reviews. The resort is adults only outside school holiday periods and they offer honeymoon bonuses and a daily shuttle to town. Owners Tony and Louisa fulfilled a dream when they completed the resort and they continue to live it ensuruing guests are rewarded.

The Havannah

The Havannah CanuatuThe Havannah is the most recent addition to Vanuatu’s choice of adults only luxury resorts. Located on the beach at Samoa Point, overlooking Havannah Harbour, there is a range of accommodation to suit different needs and budgets including the Sunset Villas, Lagoon Villas and Waterfront Villas with plunge pools.

The resort is located where the Survivor television series were made, which explains the setting on the beach for guests who would like a relaxed ‘tribal council’ drink while the sun sets over the bay. There is an excellent restaurant and couples may choose to have a special table on the jetty for a romantic dinner.

The resort is very casual and very classy and with the new sealed road is only 20 minutes from Port Vila (or a few minutes for a helicopter transfer to drop you right on the beach). The new managers seem to have a nice synergy with the property and the guests.

Breaka’s Beach Resort

Breaka's Beach ResortBreaka’s is a boutique resort 10 to 15 minutes from Port Vila on its own beach.

The fares (bungalows) are spacious, both Garden and Beachfront. They are modern but still capture the atmosphere of the tropics, nestled in lush, landscaped gardens and surrounded by palm trees and the sound of the surf breaking out on the reef.

The fares have queen-sized beds, ceiling fans and large bathrooms with coral walls. There’s a fully licensed a la carte restaurant, extensive wine cellar and a new poolside bar area. The pool is a 22 metres ‘infinity’ pool that has been purpose built to accommodate diving lessons.

There are no children allowed at the resort.

Surfside on Breakas Beach

Surfside on Breakas BeachThese villas were once part of Breaka’s but they made no sense being part of an adults only resort. While they do suit couples and there are options for twin share, the villas have three bedrooms (that can be isolated) and are fully self-contained with a private indoor plunge pool. It is on the same beach as Breaka’s, looking out to the reef and surf.

There’s wi-fi access (just need your own laptop), port-a-cots at no charge and inexpensive babysitting. Breakas Beach is the kite surfers’ and surfing beach of Port Vila. Surf boards available for hire at Pango Surf Club and you can either bring your own snorkelling equipment or you can hire from local dive shops.  Buses pass all the time so it is easy to nip into town.

Le Lagon Resort & Spa

Le Lagon is a popular resort near the mouth of Erakor Lagoon. Set in well-manicured gardens there’s a range of accommodation from Garden Rooms to bungalows to Island Suites.

There are all the facilities you expect from a large resort (141 air-conditioned rooms) – swimming pools (one with swim-up bar), restaurants and bars, golf, tennis and watersports like catamarans, windsurfing and kayaks. There is also a new conference centre and a new wedding pavilion.

The lobby area has been upgraded, all rooms recently refurbished and there is now the Oasis Day Spa for pampering/massage. The Kids Club is popular with both children and their parents.

Iririki Island Resort & Spa

Iririki Island Resort & SpaIririki has long been a favourite for Vanuatu visitors and in 2012 the whole resort is now family-friendly.

There are 70 bungalows on the Port Vila side of the island and 70 apartments in the Snorkeller’s Cove area. Iririki has all facilities you would expect including swimming pools, bars, room service, watersports and choice of dining spots including the signature restaurant, Michener’s. Guests may also dine at the Sunset Café & Bar and there is a casino on site.

The resort also features Spa Frangipani for a range of beauty services including facials, massages, waxing and nails. Facilities include tennis courts, a gymnasium and two pools, one with cascades and swim-up bar.

Grand Hotel & Casino

grand hotel and casinoThe Grand is the tallest building in Port Vila (a whole six floors!) and the only resort with a lift.

With stunning sunset views (looking out to Iririki and the harbour) the Grand suits business and leisure travellers who want to be a walk away from restaurants, nightlife and shopping (or who might like to have an on-site casino).

Crystals Restaurant (ground floor) gets good feedback and the Hemisphere Bar (top floor) is a great spot to enjoy a sunset and pre-dinner drinks.

It is an easy walk to the markets and many of Vanuatu’s restaurants and attractions and guests can take the ferry from the wharf next door across to Iririki Island Resort.

Poppy’s on the Lagoon

Resort Vanuatu Poppys on the LagoonPoppy’s on the Lagoon is often thought of as a ‘family’ resort but it caters very well for couples. There are Beachfront Spa Bungalows that are only for couples and there’s an adults-only pool away from the family-friendly pool.

The rooms are self-contained and the resort is right on the lagoon for kayaking and close to town for sightseeing, restaurants and shopping etc. Poppy’s is the only resort in Vanuatu to look after travellers with disabilities – there are two bungalows with wider doors and bathroom access with railings.

There are often very good Stay/Pay deals and the owners of Poppy’s also own Friendly Bungalows on Tanna, so there can be very good combination packages for folk wantng to visit the active volcano, Mt Yasur.

Mangoes Resort

mangoes resort vanuatuMangoes was one of the first resorts in Vila to adopt a ‘no children policy’.

Set high on the ridge above Erakor Lagoon the accommodation includes tastefully appointed, detached bungalows as well as villas with their own plunge pools. There is a walking track to get down to the lagoon and the Holiday Inn.  There are several swimming pools and a charming restaurant.

It is a walk or a short bus ride to Vila town and there’s a tour desk offering tours and activities. Refurbished by enthusiastic owners, Callum and Michelle, this resort offers excellent value.

Benjor Beach Club

Benjor Beach Club VanuatuWith the addition of two spacious self-contained Spa Villas and a swimming pool, Benjor appeals to both families and couples. Located on Devil’s Point Road about 15 minutes from Vila, Benjor spreads along 600 metres of beachfront that offers excellent reef snorkelling.

The accommodation is well-priced and the restaurant, The Officer’s Club (so named because it is where WW2 American soldiers had their ‘Officer’s Mess’), is popular with locals and guests. There are one-bedroom villas with fans, bar fridge, DVD/TV and two large five-bedroom/two-bathroom villas that can accommodate up to ten people. There is one private Honeymoon Retreat with hot tub.

Sunset Bungalows

Sunset Bungalows VanuatuSunset Bungalows is a boutique resort specifically aimed at the romance market (no guests under 18). “Affordable Indulgence’ is the resort’s motto.

Just five minutes from Port Vila the bungalows are spacious and set in tropical gardens on the lagoon. There’s a swimming pool and Bungalow: Ate, the lagoon terrace restaurant.

All bungalows are air-conditioned with TV and DVD, mini-bar, tea/coffee making facilities and four of the ten Superior Bungalows have kitchenettes.

There are also eight Lagoon View Studio Units and one Honeymoon Spa Bungalow.

Chantilly’s on the Bay

Chantilly's on the Bay VanuatuChantilly’s is a hotel-style property on the harbour a walk from/to town. The boutique resort has 20 air-conditioned apartments (some studio, some one bedroom), all with balconies looking over the harbour.

Chantilly’s suits travellers on business or those wanting a quiet holiday, close to restaurants, shopping and activities without breaking the bank.

There’s a swimming pool, cocktail bar, coffee shop and good restaurant.  the restaurant is a also a favourite with the locals, so it has to be doing a good job.

Being on the harbour it has its own jetty for scuba divers or deep-sea anglers (or a romantic dinner setting at sunset).

Moorings Hotel

Moorings Hotel VanuatuMoorings is a little further along the harbour front from town past Chantilly’s but still easy walking distance to/from town.  It is a notch above budget accommodation but still falls into the ‘good value’ category.

The Hotel has eight harbour side rooms (we recommend paying a bit extra to get the water view and sunset), six Poolside Premium Rooms, 12 Standard Queen rooms and four Family rooms.

There’s wireless Internet network, a separate Internet Cafe, extensive tour desk, a nice bar and restaurant (Moos Bar & Grill) and there is an adjacent nightclub (Rumours).

Holiday Inn

holiday inn resort vanuatuThe Holiday Inn was Palms Resort & Casino, which was Le Meridien, which was the Radisson, which was the Intercontinental so it has been around a while BUT the new owners, Holiday Inn, pretty much closed the place and totally refurbished the rooms, grounds and pool area.

The property has an impressive lobby and from there you go down one level to the Verandah restaurant and down another to the lagoon beach and main pool area (there are two pools).  There are lots of facilities and activities  like tennis, golf, catamarans, beach volleyball and the casino.

Most of the accommodation is hotel style with two wings and there are also the Island Suites, which are the closest to overwater bungalows that Vanuatu has to offer.

Fatumaru Lodge

Fatumaru Lodge VanuatuFatumaru is a delightful little property, on the waterfront, just a ten minute walk (or very short bus ride) from Port Vila for shopping and restaurants. It is ideal for travellers wanting something nice on a bit of a budget.

Owners Pascal and Patricia have given the property a personal touch and the studio apartments are spacious (46sq metres). All units are air-conditioned and self-contained with a fully equipped kitchen. The apartments have a private terrace looking out to the water. There’s a swimming pool with Jacuzzi and poolside BBQ, the ocean out front for swimming and a jetty so guests can be picked up for fishing or diving excursions.

Fatumaru also has arguably Vanuatu’s easiest to remember phone number – 23456.

Starfish Cove

starfish cove la grillade restaurantStarfish Cove is one of the newer resorts, set right on the lagoon about five minutes from town by bus (just past Sunset Bungalows).  Manager, Sydney Grace, is by name and by nature – he oversees things with grace and charm.

All the rooms are self-contained and very spacious with balconies overlooking the lagoon. The bedroom can be closed off from the lounge area with a ‘blackout’ curtain in case one half of the couple would like a sleep in!

There is a pool, 24-hour reception and the resort restaurant is excellent. Apart from getting great reviews for the food, the ambiance is also very nice (it feels like you are on the deck of a luxury cruise ship).

Paradise Cove

paradise cove restaurant vanuatuParadise Cove suits couples and families who want to just unwind and get away from it all.

There are one and two bedroom bungalows and a nice restaurant (Italian influence) and bar. Guests can also choose to dine in a smaller pavilion beside the water. There’s a swimming pool and a small harbour beach for swimming and fantastic snorkelling out front.

While breakfast is included in the rate and the restaurant opens for lunch and dinner, the bungalows are fully self-contained.

Located about 20 minutes from Vila a bus is only a phone call and a short wait away (the resort has its own drivers).

Tamanu on the Beach

Tamanu on the BeachTamanu on the Beach is a boutique property about 20 minutes from Port Vila. There’s over 500 metres of white sand beach out front and guests are assured of privacy and relaxation.

There are now 15 villas in the resort, a wedding chapel and an infinity pool.

Couples can choose to be married on the glistening beach or in the gardens or the Beachfront Pavilion with rolling surf as a magnificent backdrop.

There is a fine dining restaurant that is popular with locals as well as guests.

Aore Island Resort (Santo)

Aore Island ResortThe hardest thing about Aore is the pronunciation – ‘ow-ree’. This is a laid-back boutique island resort just 3km across the channel from Luganville (10 minutes on the launch).

There are 16 bungalows (3 garden and 13 beachfront) and all have private bathrooms, hot showers, refrigerators, tea/coffee making facilities and fans. It is a very casual resort with a terrific restaurant.

The friendly staff will make you feel welcome and look after your every need and while there’s excellent snorkelling, handy world-famous diving, kayaking and caves to explore, or just sit back on your balcony, look across to Santo and enjoy the sounds of waves lapping and fish skimming.

Moyyan: House by the Sea (Santo)

moyyan house by the seaMoyyan House by the Sea is a boutique addition to the accommodation options on Santo (12km from Luganville town). It had its origins as part of The Real Seachange TV series on Channel Seven a few years ago and has now established itself as a lovely little romance option for couples.

Just 12 steps from the water, Moyyan has the feeling of staying in a friends luxurious beach house. There are two-seater clear bottom kayaks and snorkelling gear for exploring off-shore and mountain bikes for exploring inland (to the local village or Riri River and the rainforest.

There is a Day Spa for massages and pampering and this little resort will suit couples who want to combine romance with luxury and adventure.

Bokissa Private Island Resort (Santo)

Bokissa Private Island ResortBokissa combines adventure with romance and seclusion. There’s excellent diving, game fishing and snorkelling on offer or just lazing in a hammock by the pool or beach.

The resort offers communal dining so couples can mix but, of course, if couples choose, they can have a romantic dinner for two under the stars or a gourmet picnic on their own beach. Seafood and island dishes are the chef’s specialty.

The private bungalows are air-conditioned with ceiling fans and covered verandahs. There’s tea/coffee making facilities and a mini-bar as well as large en-suite with toilet, vanity, shower and hairdryer.

White Grass Ocean Resort (Tanna)

White Grass Ocean Resort TannaWhite Grass is the ‘upmarket’ choice of accommodation on Tanna. It is on the airport side of the island so it takes a couple of hours to get to the volcano – but you have to make the trek across the island wherever you stay. White Grass gives you a welcome drink five minutes after arriving at the new airport and, naturally, it is only five minutes drive for departures.

Recently refurbished, the bungalows are comfortable with en suites (there are honeymoon bungalows), there’s a swimming pool and you can watch the sunset from your balcony or the restaurant/bar/library. Volcano safaris depart after lunch and go via the White Grass wild horses to get to the rim of Mt Yasur for sunset and return by around 8:30 for dinner. There are a number of other excellent day tours from White Grass so we recommend a few nights stay.
